Funduk of the "Stepny 83" variety is a spreading bush with a wide crown, reaching a height of 3.5 meters and a diameter of up to 4.3 meters by the age of about 14 years. The plant's leaves are dark green, broadly oval or inversely egg-shaped with curled edges, giving the bush an elegant and healthy appearance. This variety was specifically bred and adapted for cultivation in the steppe zone of Ukraine, ensuring its high frost resistance and resistance to various diseases, making it attractive for commercial horticulture. The "Stepny 83" hazelnut fruits weigh between 2 to 3 grams and are gathered in clusters of 2-5 nuts, although single nuts also occur. The nuts are elongated with a shiny brown shell about 1.2 mm thick, featuring noticeable gray pubescence and dark longitudinal stripes on the upper part. The kernel is characterized by high oil content and sweetness, amounting to approximately 47%, with fat content reaching 62.1%, ensuring excellent taste qualities. Harvesting maturity occurs in early September, enabling a stable and abundant yield — up to 8 kg per bush per season. Due to its characteristics, the "Stepny 83" variety is widely recommended for establishing industrial hazelnut orchards and commercial cultivation. Its high frost and disease resistance allows successful cultivation in steppe conditions, ensuring a reliable and high-quality harvest. Such a hazelnut will be an excellent choice for gardeners aiming to obtain a productive and long-lasting bush with superior nuts.
