Crown-shaped hazelnut — a new high-yielding variety developed at the Ukrainian Scientific Research Institute of Forestry named after G. N. Vysotsky. The bushes of this variety are low, reaching a height of 3.5 to 5 meters and a diameter of up to 4 meters. They are characterized by medium-length straight shoots of greenish-brown color with pubescence. Fruiting occurs in clusters of 3–8 nuts, sometimes up to 22, and up to 4–6 thousand catkins can form on one bush, making the variety an excellent pollinator. Yield per bush ranges from 6 to 8 kg, sometimes exceeding 7 kg. The fruits of the Crown-shaped hazelnut have oval or round shape with a pointed tip and a small light-gray or gray convex base. The shell is thin, brown or light-brown, with soft pubescence at the top and dark longitudinal grooves. The kernel has a slightly sweet taste with a pleasant oily flavor, containing 47.2% to over 70% oil, indicating high product quality. Fruits ripen in the first decade of September, which corresponds to a medium ripening period. The Crown-shaped variety is distinguished by high frost resistance and resistance to sharp temperature fluctuations, as well as to various diseases, making it promising for industrial cultivation in Ukraine. Due to good transportability and the versatility of its fruits, this hazelnut is suitable both for fresh consumption and for processing. High yield, excellent taste qualities, and unique characteristics make the Crown-shaped variety a valuable choice for gardeners and farmers.
