Two-reed (Phragmites australis) is a decorative plant, perfect for decorating the shores of large water bodies, ponds, and streams. Its leaves have a linear shape, up to 2 cm wide, decorated with white or cream stripes, giving the plant a bright and picturesque appearance. The ears are gathered in dense, rush-like panicles up to 20 cm long, creating the effect of a lush carpet.
The plant prefers the shallow water zone, with a depth of 5 to 20 cm, and can be grown in open ground as well as in containers. It is resistant to diseases and pests, does not require frequent care, and maintains its decorative appearance even in winter, so it can be left on the water without the need to remove it.
Two-reed is characterized by an upright form, with a height of 1.5 to 1.7 meters. The leaves are long, elongated-tipped, and the inflorescences are long and loose. The seeds have an elongated shape, shiny gray or dark gray. The plant recovers quickly after mowing, has high winter hardiness, and can be used as fodder material due to the protein content of about 13% and fiber of almost 29%.
