Reed canary grass Vityaz

Securing Forage Base: The Potential of 'Vityaz'

The 'Vityaz' reed canary grass (Phalaris arundinacea) is the result of extensive breeding efforts by the Siberian Federal Scientific Center for Agrobiotechnologies of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Developed to thrive in demanding climatic conditions, this variety has established itself as a reliable perennial grass for producers focused on cold hardiness and consistent biomass production.

Dual-Purpose Efficiency: Pasture and Silage

The primary advantage of this variety lies in its versatile application. 'Vityaz' was designed for dual-use: it performs exceptionally well within intensive grazing systems and serves as a high-quality raw material for silage. Its high leafiness and rapid regrowth capacity after cutting allow farmers to rely on stable harvest yields throughout the growing season.

• Biological Resilience: Reed canary grass is well-regarded for its tolerance to temporary flooding and its ability to thrive in moist environments, making 'Vityaz' an excellent choice for floodplain land utilization.
• Nutritional Value: The variety exhibits high protein content, which is critical for sustaining productivity in dairy and beef cattle farming.
• Agronomic Performance: Stable growth dynamics enable efficient planning of harvest schedules, ensuring seamless integration with forage harvesting equipment.

The reputation of 'Vityaz' is built on its low-maintenance profile. In regions with short growing seasons, it offers a level of reliability that more sensitive, intensive varieties often lack. It is a strategic choice for operations seeking to balance low cost-per-feed-unit with stable biomass production per hectare.
