Dahlia NORTHERN BLUE

Scale and Aesthetics of Decorative Dahlias

When growing 'Severny Blues' (Northern Blues) from 'Vashe Khozyaistvo', the first thing you notice is not just the size of the flower, but its impressive architecture. A diameter of 13–20 cm requires the gardener to be mindful of structural support: while the stems are sturdy, the sheer weight of the bloom during heavy rain or wind makes staking an absolute necessity. This is not a low-maintenance plant that can be left entirely to its own devices.

Maintenance and Agrotechnics

This variety responds very well to classic fertilizing regimes. To maintain such a large flower caliber throughout the season, adhering to a strict schedule of potassium-phosphorus fertilizer application is critical. Unlike small-flowered cultivars, 'Severny Blues' directs significantly more energy into forming its complex decorative shape. Timely deadheading is not just an aesthetic chore here; it is essential for redistributing the plant's resources for subsequent flowering waves.

Recommended Use

• Cut Flowers: Thanks to its long and strong stems, 'Severny Blues' is an excellent choice for floral arrangements. In a vase, these blooms retain their freshness significantly longer than many of their decorative counterparts.
• Flowerbeds: This variety dominates the landscape. It demands space, which is why we recommend planting at intervals of at least 60-80 cm between bushes to ensure proper airflow and prevent fungal diseases within the dense foliage.

Working with this variety is a rewarding experience: its predictable development and high decorative value make it a reliable centerpiece for any floral arrangement. 'Vashe Khozyaistvo' has created a cultivar that is forgiving of minor agricultural oversights, yet truly thrives when given the proper attention.
