Dahlia Zarnitsa

The Geometric Elegance of 'Zarnitsa'

The 'Zarnitsa' dahlia, developed by the Tsitsin Main Botanical Garden of the RAS, distinguishes itself from standard varieties through its sophisticated architectural structure. As a hybrid exhibiting both cactus and semi-cactus characteristics, its petals are pointed and slightly twisted, providing a dramatic depth and visual lightness to its substantial 13–20 cm blooms.

Cultivation and Practical Application

Falling into the mid-height category (70–100 cm), 'Zarnitsa' serves as an ideal mid-border plant, avoiding the overcrowding issues of taller varieties while maintaining a strong presence. Its core advantages include:

• Stem Integrity: The sturdy stalks reliably support the massive flower heads, a critical trait for professional-grade cut flowers.
• Floral Impact: The unique texture of the petals ensures the flower stands out as a focal point in any arrangement.
• Environmental Resilience: Bred under rigorous botanical standards, the variety is highly adaptable to outdoor conditions in temperate climates.

Who Should Choose This Variety

'Zarnitsa' is designed for gardeners who balance a desire for aesthetic excellence with the need for reliable garden performance. While not overly temperamental, it thrives on consistent fertilization and requires careful tuber storage during the dormant winter months. If you value precise petal formation and are seeking a proven variety from the Tsitsin Botanical Garden legacy, 'Zarnitsa' is a robust and visually striking addition to any dahlia collection.
