Black currant variety Favorite is a medium-sized shrub of Slovakian selection, characterized by stable and regular yields. The bushes have medium density and raised shoots that slightly droop during fruiting. The plant is sun-loving and adapts well to various climatic conditions, including the Moscow region and other areas with a mild climate. Favorite has good winter hardiness, but covering is recommended to protect buds from late spring frosts. The variety is resistant to bud mites, has medium resistance to anthracnose, but requires preventive measures against powdery mildew.
The berries of the Favorite black currant are large, weighing 3-4 grams, of round shape, black in color with a shiny surface. They are juicy, sweet and aromatic, with a thin skin, which makes them attractive for fresh consumption and various culinary purposes. Fruit ripening occurs in mid-summer, approximately from July 20, which allows harvesting by the end of the second week of July. The yield from one bush ranges from 2 to 3.5 kilograms.
For successful cultivation of the Favorite variety, it is important to ensure timely watering and regular care, including spring, summer, and autumn pruning. Despite the high quality of the berries, they are not suitable for mechanized harvesting and do not tolerate transportation well, so it is best to use them immediately after collection. This variety is valued for its combination of taste qualities, yield stability, and adaptability to various growing conditions.
