Corn Viraj 178 MV is a high-yielding hybrid with a stable yield level. It is characterized by high resistance to short-term temperature drops, ensuring seedling stability under various climatic conditions. The hybrid exhibits high resistance to lodging (9 points), major diseases (8 points), and pest damage (8 points), significantly reducing the risk of yield loss.
The vegetation period of corn Viraj 178 MV varies depending on the region: 93 days in the southern steppe, 102 days in the northern steppe, 104 days in the forest-steppe zone, and 108 days in the Polissia region. Plant height reaches 190 cm, with ear attachment height of 65 cm. The stem has weak anthocyanic pigmentation, and the leaves are semi-erect. The ear has a cylindrical shape with 14-16 rows of kernels, a small cob diameter, and an ear stalk length up to 5 cm. The ear stalk flexibility and attachment strength are high, contributing to resistance against lodging.
The kernels of corn Viraj 178 MV are dent-shaped, yellow in color, with a 1000-kernel weight of 240-260 grams. Grain yield reaches 82-84%, and the drying intensity after physiological maturity is high, facilitating harvesting and storage. This hybrid is widely used for grain production and features good technological properties, making it one of the popular corn varieties in Ukraine.
