A high-potential French hybrid requiring precise plant density management and moisture control during critical growth stages.
Description
Agronomic Management of the RUGIRO Hybrid
The RUGIRO hybrid (F1), developed by the French branch of KWS SAAT SE & Co. KGaA and registered in Ukraine in 2026, represents a new generation of high-yielding maize. To maximize its genetic potential, growers must adhere to precise agronomic protocols tailored to its physiological needs.
Sowing Strategy and Plant Density
Successful establishment begins with soil temperature; sowing should commence when the 5–10 cm soil layer reaches +10...+12°C. RUGIRO exhibits vigorous early-stage growth, but final yield is heavily dependent on optimal plant density:
- In high-fertility, well-watered zones: 75,000–85,000 plants per hectare.
- In drought-prone or moisture-limited regions: 60,000–70,000 plants per hectare.
A standard 70 cm row spacing is recommended to ensure optimal light interception and efficient mechanical weeding.
Developmental Phase Management
3–5 Leaf Stage: This is the critical period for root system architecture. Weed control must be prioritized to eliminate competition for nutrients and moisture. Herbicide applications should be completed by the 6-leaf stage to avoid physiological stress during the transition to reproductive development.
8–10 Leaf Stage: During this phase of rapid vegetative growth, RUGIRO shows a high response to nitrogen fertilization. Split applications are recommended based on soil nutrient analysis to ensure consistent growth rates.Flowering and Grain Filling: Water availability is paramount during tasseling. Moisture stress at this stage can significantly reduce kernel set and overall yield. Integrated pest management, particularly monitoring for the European corn borer, is essential during this window to protect ear integrity.
Soil requirements: RUGIRO performs best in well-aerated, neutral-pH soils. In heavy clay soils, deep tillage is advised to prevent compaction and encourage the deep root penetration characteristic of KWS genetics, which provides superior lodging resistance.
