The R8240 corn hybrid is a medium-early simple hybrid with FAO 240, primarily intended for grain production. It is characterized by high productivity and stable yield, making it suitable for various climatic zones in Ukraine, including the Polissia, Forest-Steppe, and Steppe regions. The plant is tall, reaching 230-240 cm in height, with a high attachment of the lower ear at 100-110 cm. The grain is dent-shaped, light yellow-orange in color, with a 1000-grain weight of approximately 260-270 g and a grain yield of 83-84%. The hybrid exhibits intensive and rapid water loss during maturation, allowing for timely harvest and reducing the risk of losses.
R8240 has high plasticity and is adapted to various growing conditions, including minimal soil tillage and monoculture. It is resistant to lodging and major diseases, contributing to the preservation of grain quality and quantity. However, the hybrid is not recommended for early planting or late harvest, as prolonged stand time negatively affects grain quality. Winter harvest should be avoided, and pre-emergence herbicides should be applied strictly according to crop development stages.
The hybrid exhibits high cold tolerance, enabling successful cultivation in cooler-climate regions. Drought and heat tolerance are rated as moderate; however, high temperatures during the final vegetative stages may negatively affect plant development. R8240 is suitable for dual use — grain and silage — expanding its application potential in agriculture. Optimal planting density depends on moisture conditions and ranges from 65 to 80 thousand plants per hectare.
