Maize Palmira South

Genetic Architecture and Crop Potential

«Palmira Pivdnya» is a single-cross maize hybrid developed by the Selection and Genetics Institute. It stands out for its structural versatility: the hybrid combines the high-yield potential of dent-type grain with the specific traits of sweet corn. This unique genetic makeup allows growers to transition between industrial grain production and the fresh-market sweet corn segment depending on market demand.

Developmental Physiology and Pathogen Defense

With a maturity cycle of 90–100 days, this hybrid is precision-engineered for southern climates. The rapid development allows the crop to avoid late-season stress. The internal resistance profile is specifically targeted at two major yield-limiting factors:

• Helminthosporium: High tolerance protects the leaf area, ensuring maximum photosynthesis efficiency during the grain-fill stage.
• Fusarium: Enhanced resistance prevents fungal ear rot, protecting grain quality even in humid, late-season conditions.

The use of a simple hybrid system ensures high uniformity across the field. This consistency is essential for mechanical harvesting and uniform drying parameters. By utilizing dent-type grain characteristics, the hybrid achieves superior moisture dry-down rates, which is a critical technical advantage for streamlining post-harvest operations and reducing energy costs during conditioning.
