This simple maize hybrid, developed by the Institute of Grain Crops of NAAS, is a specialized solution for intensive grain production. Its genetic architecture is designed to maximize potential under moderate moisture conditions. The selection of dent-type grain is a deliberate design choice, facilitating rapid moisture loss during ripening—a critical factor for reducing post-harvest drying costs.

Biological protection and structural integrity

The engineered resistance of DN Zlata to pathogens is a core feature of its breeding. The hybrid demonstrates high tolerance to a complex of diseases most hazardous to maize crops in Ukraine:

• Fusarium: minimizes the risk of ear rot and preserves high grain market quality.
• Common smut and stalk rots: ensures stem strength, effectively preventing lodging even during delayed harvesting.
• European corn borer: natural genetic resistance to pest damage reduces the need for heavy insecticide application.

With an FAO rating of 240, this hybrid offers strategic flexibility in crop rotation. Being a single-cross hybrid, it ensures high crop uniformity, where each cob maintains identical morphology and maturation parameters. This physical consistency reduces harvest losses during combine operations and allows for precise scheduling of harvesting windows without compromising grain quality.
