Description CORTON
CORTON — this is a mid-maturing hybrid of corn (Zea mays L.), intended for grain and silage production. The plant is tall with a medium-width leaf blade and curved leaf position. The ear is weakly conical, medium or long, with a large number of rows of kernels. The kernels are dent type with yellow-orange coloring on the upper part. The vegetative period is approximately 103 days, corresponding to the average maturity. The hybrid is characterized by medium tassel density and medium side branch length, as well as medium anthocyanin root and stalk coloration. CORTON’s yield is distinguished by stability and high productivity: the average grain yield in the region reaches 52.7 c/ha, which is 12.9% higher than the standard, and the maximum grain yield amounted to 104.6 c/ha. Grain moisture at harvest is at the level of 21.4%, which is lower than the standard, while dry matter content reaches 38.5%. The hybrid has good resistance to stalk and ear bacterial and fusarium diseases, but is susceptible to medium levels of damage from corn borer. CORTON is convenient in agronomy due to the medium angle between the leaf blade and the stem, as well as medium tassel length and density, which promotes effective pollination and yield formation. Its grain is suitable for various purposes, including feed and food production. The hybrid is recommended for cultivation in the North Caucasus region, where it demonstrates high adaptability and stable productivity.
