The ZNATNAYA cherry variety is the result of crossing the Zolotaya and Dabaya Black varieties, bred at the State Nikitsky Botanical Garden. This variety is recommended for cultivation in the North Caucasus region and the Astrakhan region, and is also widely grown in Crimea. It is a medium-sized tree with an rounded canopy of medium density and large, elongated green leaves. The flowers are large, white, and arranged in umbellate inflorescences.
ZNATNAYA cherry fruits are large, broadly round in shape, with a mass of about 6.3 grams. The skin is dense, smooth, and dark maroon; the flesh is of medium density, dark red, and juicy. The taste is sour-sweet with a slight bitterness near the pit. The fruits ripen at an average term - approximately from June 20 to 25. The sugar content in the fruits is about 11.2%, acids - 0.47%, and vitamin C - 6.7 mg%. Thanks to the dense skin and good taste, the fruits have high transportability and are suitable for mechanized harvesting.
The variety is distinguished by high yield - about 78 centners per hectare. It has high resistance to cockle mosaic, medium drought resistance, and heat tolerance. However, frost resistance for the variety is average and may be insufficient for central Russia. ZNATNAYA cherry is versatile in application and suitable both for fresh consumption and for industrial processing.
