IBK-25 Mushroom – is a fungus preserved in pure culture in the IBK (Mushroom Culture Collection) of the M.G. Khodorovsky Institute of Botany. The collection includes 1340 strains from 265 species of basidiomycetes and ascomycetes, among which IBK-25 belongs to the group of wild strains preserved in pure culture.
An important aspect of working with this strain is its use for scientific research in fungal biology and biotechnology. Mushrooms from the collection are used in developing cultivation methods, as well as in producing medicinal and food additives. For isolating IBK-25, various agar media – wort, malz, compost, potato‑dextrose and others – are used.
Strain preservation is carried out at 4 ± 1 °C, and identification is performed using morphological and cultural characteristics, additionally confirmed by scanning electron microscopy. The collection plays a key role in ex-situ conservation of fungal genetic resources and can be used for returning rare species to natural ecosystems.
