Nepeta «Blue Hooker» is a perennial shrub from the Nepeta genus, known for its continuous and abundant blue flowering from June to September, as well as fragrant silvery-green leaves. It features a compact, rounded bush structure with dense foliage and highly branched stems, making it ideal for creating airy clouds in sunny borders, rock gardens, and gravel gardens.
The leaves are small, oval with a serrated edge, covered in a silvery-green down that gives the plant a soft matte appearance. Touching the leaves releases a menthol-lime aroma that repels deer and rabbits but attracts cats – although «Blue Hooker» is less attractive to them than classic catnip. The shrub grows easily in open sunny spots without requiring fertile soils; it prefers well-drained sandy or rocky substrates and shows high drought resistance after rooting.
Flowers are gathered in long spike inflorescences consisting of small bright lavender-blue or deep blue buds. Mass flowering creates an effect of a blue mist that sways in the light breeze and attracts bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. After the first flowering wave, it is recommended to prune the shrub by a third or half its height to stimulate a new wave of abundant flowering. Due to its hardiness, frost resistance, and attractive appearance, «Blue Hooker» becomes a popular choice for creating decorative borders, flowerbeds, containers, and balcony boxes where a durable and beautiful plant is required.
