The «Zima» (Winter) cabbage variety from the Sedek brand is a specialized tool designed to secure vegetable stock for the longest possible storage period. The breeding work conducted by authors A.N. Lukyanenko, S.V. Dubinin, and I.N. Dubinina focused on the physiological stability of the cabbage head under prolonged exposure to low temperatures.

The fundamental advantage of this variety lies in its ability to retain quality for 10–12 months. From a technical standpoint, this is achieved through the dense structure of the inner leaves and high dry matter content, which critically reduces the activity of enzymatic processes leading to premature wilting.

Phytopathological protection

One of the primary challenges in storing white cabbage for several months is the development of fungal and bacterial rots. The genetic code of «Zima» includes mechanisms for increasing natural resistance to the main pathogens that cause gray and white mold. The tight overlapping of cover leaves creates a physical barrier against spore penetration, while the specific biochemical composition of the cell sap inhibits the rapid spread of secondary infections within storage piles.
