Technological potential of the Kanto hybrid

The early-maturing white cabbage 'Kanto' from the Dutch breeding company Ikasido Global Group B.V. is a breeding solution focused on intensive cultivation in the early vegetable segment. The originator Igor Shevchenko prioritized the balance between a short vegetation period and resistance to specific pathogens that limit yield during the spring season.

Phytopathological protection and biological traits

The key advantage of this hybrid is its pronounced tolerance to a complex of soil-borne infections. The genetic profile of 'Kanto' provides increased resistance to:

• Black leg (Rhizoctonia solani, Olpidium brassicae);
• Root rots of various etiologies;
• Secondary bacterial rots.

These characteristics are critical during early transplanting into soil that is not yet sufficiently warmed or is waterlogged, where the risk of root system infection increases exponentially. The stability of the root system allows the plant to effectively absorb nutrients even under unstable temperature conditions.

Agrotechnical parameters and market quality

The compact plant structure allows for high planting density, ranging from 50,000 to 60,000 plants per hectare. The marketable head forms within a tight timeframe (40-50 days after transplanting). As a result, the producer obtains uniform, round heads weighing 1.0–1.5 kg. This size is optimal for retail chains and the fresh market, as the product has high turnover and an attractive appearance. The short storage period (1-2 months) is not a drawback for this category of cabbage, as the main strategy is based on rapid sale immediately after harvest.
