Cabbage Saga

Garden Aesthetics: Growing 'Saga' Ornamental Cabbage

When it comes to decorating a plot or urban landscape, the choice of varieties is a critical factor. 'Saga' ornamental cabbage from 'Agrocompany Ataman' is a case where the breeding work of Ramil Alikhanovich Badirshaev turns an ordinary patch into an art object.

Vegetation and Care

The main challenge in working with 'Saga' is pest control. Being an ornamental variety, it retains all the gastronomic appeal of common crucifers, so insecticide treatments must be regular, especially during the active rosette formation phase. The plant responds well to nitrogen fertilization during the first half of the season, but as the weather cools, it is crucial to reduce nutrient intensity so the rosette can develop its rich, vibrant tones.

• Temperature regime: The true beauty of 'Saga' emerges when temperatures drop below +15°C. The leaves acquire a unique palette that persists even through the first frosts.
• Irrigation: The crop is moisture-loving, but water stagnation in the root zone leads to rot. Drip irrigation or base watering is ideal.
• Soil: The variety prefers loams with high organic content. If planted in poor soil, the size of the rosette will be significantly smaller than its potential.

Practical Application

Use this variety not only in flower beds but also in container gardening. It makes a perfect focal point when summer annuals have faded and the autumn chill begins. It is a resilient plant with high decorative value that requires minimal attention, provided you have planned ahead for pest protection and proper planting site selection.
