Yamada

Peking cabbage Yamada (KS 888 F1) is a medium-early hybrid with bright purple leaves, developed by breeders of Kitano Seeds. The plant is compact with upright growth, forming elongated-cylindrical heads weighing from 1 to 1.5 kg. Leaves are crinkled, juicy, and tasty, with a dense internal structure, giving the cabbage an attractive market appearance and making it an excellent choice for fresh markets and processing. The heads have a rich lilac color with a purple-white core, which distinguishes this hybrid from other Peking cabbage varieties.

The Yamada hybrid is highly cold-resistant and contains a high amount of vitamins and beneficial substances, making it especially valuable for inclusion in salad mixes and other fresh dishes. The vegetative period is 60-70 days after transplanting seedlings, allowing for an early harvest. The cabbage retains its market and taste qualities during storage for 4-5 months, ensuring a prolonged product shelf life.

For successful cultivation, seed sowing for seedlings is recommended at the end of March – beginning of April, followed by transplanting into open ground at the end of April – beginning of May, when seedlings have formed 5-6 true leaves. Soil should be loose and moist, with seed spacing of about 3 cm. To prevent calcium deficiency, it is recommended to spray leaves with calcium three times before head formation. The Yamada hybrid is suitable for second crop cultivation and is resistant to bolting, which simplifies agricultural practices and improves crop quality.
