Green bean variety Westochka is an early bush type with a compact plant, 47-48 cm high. The plant is characterized by moderately foliated green leaves with rhomboid leaflets and white flowers. Pods are straight, round in cross-section, 10-12 cm long and about 0.9 cm wide, containing 5-7 seeds. At technical maturity, pods have green color and fleshy structure, while at full maturity they become creamy, sugary, without parchment layer and fiber, ensuring high product quality and good taste of canned beans. The Westochka variety is distinguished by high yield, reaching 91-120 c/ha, and simultaneous pod formation, making it suitable for mechanized harvesting. The weight of 1000 seeds is 325-350 g; seeds are elliptical, white with brown spotting, smooth and shiny. The dry matter content in pods is 16.9%, and protein – 3.5%. According to the originator, the variety has average resistance to bacterial blotches, which increases its reliability in cultivation. Westochka is recommended for use both in home cooking and in the canned food industry thanks to its taste qualities and ease of processing. The variety was bred at the Crimean Experimental and Breeding Station of the All-Russian Institute of Plant Breeding and was approved for cultivation in all regions. The period from full germination to technical maturity is 47-86 days, which allows obtaining an early bean crop with excellent consumer properties.
