The "Dragon Tongue" bean variety is a mid-early type with curly pods and striped grains adorned with chocolate-red stripes. The grains have an elongated shape and medium size, giving the bean an attractive appearance. The plants differ in high yield and undemanding care, which makes this variety popular among gardeners.
The bean pods reach a length of about 13 cm and have a purple color without a parchment layer and fibers, which facilitates their consumption. The taste of the bean is excellent: young pods are crisp and juicy, with a creamy hue and purple stripes, while the seeds have a nutty and slightly sweet taste. Beans can be used at different stages of maturity – young pods and seeds are suitable for fresh consumption, preparing side dishes, main dishes, pickling, and freezing.
For growing "Dragon Tongue" beans, sowing in open ground at the end of May – beginning of June after frost is recommended to a depth of 2–3 cm with inter-row spaces of 40 x 10 cm. Sowing for seedlings at the beginning of May with subsequent transplanting into open ground at the beginning of June is also possible. For good growth and abundant fruiting, timely watering, regular weeding, loosening, and feeding with mineral fertilizers are necessary. At full maturity of the bean, the stripes on the grains become dark red, and the seeds can be used as dried beans.
