The Fomat spring barley variety is a medium-maturing type created through intraspecific hybridization followed by individual selection from the hybrid combination of Astoria (France) and Ratnik (Russia) varieties. The plant is medium-height with a semi-upright bush and medium-length ear, which has a pyramidal to cylindrical shape and a loose structure. The grain is large, with a 1000-seed mass of 46-52 grams, indicating high-quality seed material. The vegetation period is 70-76 days, classifying it as a medium-maturing variety. Fomat is characterized by high resistance to major barley diseases, such as powdery mildew, root rots, and stem rust, as well as moderate resistance to covered smut. The variety also exhibits high drought and heat tolerance, making it suitable for cultivation in various climatic conditions. The plant is resistant to lodging, which helps preserve the harvest and facilitates harvesting. The Fomat variety is intended for malting, food, and feed purposes. The variety yields high and stable results: in the Central Black Earth region, it reaches an average of 46.8 centners per hectare, in the North Caucasus region — 27.6 centners per hectare, with maximum figures reaching up to 83.7 centners per hectare. The average yield is 6.4–7.3 tons per hectare, exceeding standard indicators by 0.8 tons per hectare. It is recommended for cultivation in the Voronezh region and Stavropol Krai, and is also suitable for other regions with similar climatic conditions.
