Developed by Volga Seeds and the Samara Federal Research Center, Orlan is an intensive spring barley variety engineered for stable yields in high-risk farming environments. Phytosanitary Defense and Biological Potential

A critical technical breakthrough in Orlan’s development is its genetic resistance to a complex of pathogens. The variety shows significant immunity against helminthosporiosis and root rots—the most aggressive diseases that typically compromise productive tillering and grain filling. Furthermore, its resistance to onion stalk smut (Urocystis cepulae) ensures the integrity of the ear during the critical wax maturity phase.

Grain Filling Dynamics and Quality Metrics

With a vegetation period of 80–90 days, Orlan is classified as a mid-early variety, allowing it to bypass peak July droughts. The variety demonstrates high plasticity regarding its 1000-seed weight, which ranges from 40 to 52 grams, depending on the agronomic background and moisture availability. This flexibility enables agronomists to optimize seeding density effectively.
