Barley Taman'

Working with the «Taman» spring barley

For a grower, «Taman» means field predictability. As a two-row barley variety developed by the Plant Breeding and Genetics Institute, it shows excellent crop uniformity, which significantly simplifies combine harvester header adjustments. Fewer grain losses and consistent feeding into the threshing system are the primary technical advantages of this variety.

Phytosanitary control and maintenance

The core strength of «Taman» is its natural resistance to major pathogens, allowing for optimized fungicide application costs. Under intensive farming conditions, the variety exhibits immunity to loose smut, powdery mildew, and barley leaf rust. This effectively reduces the workload on sprayers and cuts down on expensive pesticide use during the growing season.

Operational recommendations

• Sowing: The two-row ear type requires strict adherence to seeding rates to achieve an optimal productive stem density. Avoid overseeding to prevent lodging.
• Maintenance: Despite genetic resistance, monitoring crops during the stem elongation stage is mandatory — this helps save on «preventive» spraying, as the variety rarely requires emergency intervention.
• Harvesting: The variety tends to ripen uniformly, allowing for harvesting within optimal agronomic timeframes without the risk of grain shattering during minor harvesting delays.

«Taman» is a reliable choice for those seeking a balance between the stability of Ukrainian breeding and ease of operation with a crop that does not require excessive capital investment in chemical protection.
