Description MIP Sarmat
MIP Sarmat is a high-quality barley variety developed in Ukraine for the brewing industry. It is a pure-line variety of the type var nutans Schubl, developed at the Myronivsky Institute of Wheat named after V. M. Remesla of the NAAN through individual selection from a hybrid population derived from crossing two Western European brewing varieties. The variety is characterized by high yield potential, exceeding 8.7 t/ha, as well as a medium-early maturation period, 5–7 days earlier than late-maturing analogs. Plant height is 65–70 cm, ensuring a medium-low stature with strong straw, which contributes to high lodging resistance (8–9 points).

MIP Sarmat is characterized by an optimal combination of high yield and brewing quality. According to three-year trials, the quality indicators of malt include total protein content 10.5%, soluble protein 5.8%, moisture 4.2%, extractability 82.5%, and high diastatic power 332 W-K units. The variety has very high resistance to powdery mildew due to the presence of mlo11 genes, making it reliable under various climatic conditions. Additionally, it is drought-tolerant and exceeds analogs in yield during dry years by 0.7–1.5 t/ha.

Due to its properties, MIP Sarmat is an ideal choice for cultivation in various regions of Ukraine, including the Steppe, Forest-Steppe, and Polissia. Its medium-early growth period and high resistance to diseases and lodging ensure stable yield and high grain quality, which is especially important for the brewing industry. This variety combines reliability, productivity, and quality, making it promising for farmers seeking maximum results in barley production.
