Description
The Kamashevskiy spring barley variety is mid-ripening and highly valued for its grain quality. It was created by the breeding staff of TatNIISKh at the Kazan Federal Research Center (FRC) of the Russian Academy of Sciences and recommended for cultivation in the regions of the Volga-Vyatka and Central Volga districts, including the Republic of Tatarstan and the North Forest-Steppe zone of the Sverdlovsk region. Kamashevskiy is distinguished by its high yield, averaging 30.7-36.7 centners/hectare, with maximum yields reaching 85.3 centners/hectare. The variety's vegetative period is 69-90 days, allowing it to successfully adapt to early sowing conditions and efficiently utilize moisture in deficit moisture conditions.
The Kamashevskiy variety features an intermediate bush type, medium height, and a pyramidal-cylindrical loose ear with long serrated awns colored with anthocyanin. The grain is large, with a 1000-seed mass ranging from 44 to 57 grams, indicating high quality and market appeal of the grain. Protein content in the grain varies from 10.5% to 15.6%, making this variety valuable for grain-forage use.
Kamashevskiy has moderate resistance to major fungal diseases such as dark brown blotch and root rots, but is susceptible to loose smut. The variety demonstrates good resistance to lodging, although it slightly lags behind some standard varieties in this regard. Thanks to its adaptive properties and quality characteristics, Kamashevskiy is widely used in agriculture to obtain stable and high yields of barley under complex climatic conditions.
