Barley Ekaterina

Stable yields in challenging farming conditions

The winter barley variety "Ekaterina" from the seed breeding company "RVA Ukraina" is a specialized tool for farmers aiming for predictable profitability on light to medium soils. The two-row ear structure makes this variety particularly attractive for operations focused on grain quality metrics essential for both brewing and animal feed industries.

Agrotechnical advantages in the field

The main objective "Ekaterina" addresses is the minimization of losses caused by common pathogens. Its pronounced genetic resistance to a complex of diseases—specifically helminthosporiosis, root rots, and powdery mildew—allows for significant optimization of fungicide application schemes. In high-humidity spring conditions, the variety demonstrates excellent resistance, reducing the need for additional pesticide treatments.

Cultivation practices

Due to its short stature (plant height is only 60-70 cm), the variety exhibits high resistance to lodging. This is a critical factor for regions prone to high winds or for farms utilizing intensive cultivation technologies with high nitrogen fertilizer inputs. The short stem profile ensures that nutrients are efficiently redirected towards developing a robust, heavy ear rather than vegetative biomass.

• Optimal sowing windows allow the crop to successfully complete the tillering phase before the onset of critical winter temperatures.
• Low straw volume simplifies the harvesting process: less biomass passes through the combine, which increases operating speed and reduces mechanical wear on equipment.
• The variety is well-adapted to the climatic conditions of Ukraine, showing high germination energy and uniform emergence even under moisture deficit during the autumn period.

By choosing "Ekaterina," growers gain a reliable variety with predictable performance, enabling efficient operational planning and a stable harvest of high-quality grain with minimal risk of crop lodging.
