Description Sultan
Artichoke «Sultan» – a medium-early variety of a perennial vegetable plant up to two meters high, distinguished by large leaves and dense spherical flower heads with a diameter of ten to twenty-five centimeters. The harvest begins 120–130 days after germination when the flower heads reach the size of a chicken egg; this is usually late August to early September. For proper plant development, fertile soil, good lighting, and regular watering are required, as well as timely fertilization and weed removal.

Cut heads with 3–5 centimeters of the flower stalk before flowering retain freshness and flavor. The fleshy receptacle and lower parts of the bracts are the main edible parts, which can be consumed fresh, boiled, baked, or preserved. Due to its high content of vitamins and minerals, artichoke «Sultan» is considered a delicacy suitable for home preparation as well as for the production of pickled and oil products.

For planting, a scheme of 70×70 cm between plants is recommended. Sowing seeds is carried out in March–early April, and transplanting seedlings – late May to early June. Yields can reach up to ten heads per square meter when agricultural technology recommendations are followed. Due to its resistance to diseases and good productivity, this variety is especially popular in the central belt, where it provides a stable income for gardeners.
