The French variety 'Lady Cot', officially registered in Ukraine in 2026 (owned by TOV 'Vsi v Sad'), requires precise adherence to cultivation protocols to achieve its full yield potential. Success with this variety depends on careful site preparation and management.

Planting and Spacing

The optimal planting window is early spring, before sap flow begins, or autumn, at least 3-4 weeks before the ground freezes. For intensive orchard management, a spacing of 4x3 meters or 5x3 meters is recommended. Avoid low-lying areas where cold air settles, as the variety is sensitive to frost pockets.

Soil and Irrigation Requirements

'Lady Cot' thrives in light loams or sandy soils with a neutral pH (6.5–7.5). Proper drainage is non-negotiable; waterlogging in the root zone is detrimental. During the active growth phase (May–June), drip irrigation is essential, providing 30–50 liters per tree weekly. Irrigation should be reduced during the fruit ripening period to prevent fruit cracking.

Care by Growth Phase

• Vegetation: Early spring pruning is necessary to maintain an open-center or modified leader canopy. Nitrogen fertilization must be completed before the flowering stage.
• Flowering and Fruit Set: Protection against late spring frosts is critical. Use frost protection methods such as overhead irrigation or frost blankets if temperatures drop.
• Ripening: Application of potassium-phosphorus fertilizers in mid-summer enhances fruit sugar content and ensures proper wood hardening before winter dormancy.
