This species requires high light exposure to maintain its compact, attractive structure. However, in extreme summer heat, light shading is recommended to prevent scorching of the succulent leaves, which are actually specialized tubercles.

The growing medium must be highly porous and inorganic. A mixture consisting primarily of coarse sand, pumice, and grit is ideal, as it prevents root suffocation and ensures that excess water drains away from the root ball immediately.

Obregonia thrives in warm climates during the growing season with temperatures ranging from 20°C to 30°C. A distinct winter dormancy period is crucial, requiring temperatures around 10°C and total dryness to mimic its natural environment.

Watering should be performed cautiously, specifically during the warmest months when the plant is actively growing. Using a bottom-watering technique is often preferred to keep the stem and tubercles dry, thus preventing fungal infections.

Root rot is the most common ailment affecting Obregonia, usually caused by overwatering or poorly drained substrates. Symptoms include softening of the stem base and discoloration of the tubercles, often requiring immediate repotting.

Pests such as mealybugs and spider mites can infest the crevices between the tubercles. Regular inspection with a magnifying glass is advised, followed by targeted application of mild insecticidal soaps or systemic treatments when necessary.
