Freylinia

The origin of this culture is South Africa, where the plant thrives in mild, moderately humid climates. Its cultivation range is limited to regions with warm winters, as the plant does not tolerate severe frosts well.

Botanically, Freylinia is characterized by narrow lanceolate leaves and tubular flowers gathered in panicles. The shrub can reach a height of 2 to 4 meters, making it an excellent choice for hedge planting in garden design.

For successful growth, the plant requires a sunny location and well-drained, fertile soil with a neutral to slightly acidic pH. The culture is sensitive to waterlogging, so creating a drainage layer when planting in heavy soil is essential.

Agrotechnics include regular watering during the active growing season and moderate pruning after the flowering period ends. Pruning helps maintain a compact crown shape and stimulates more vigorous blooming the following season.

The main threats to Freylinia are related to improper moisture management and pests. When overwatered or planted in poor drainage, the root system is highly susceptible to fungal infections such as root rot.

Among insect pests, aphids and scale insects pose the greatest danger, as they attack young shoots and leaves. Regularly inspecting the underside of the leaves is crucial for the early detection of pest colonies.

To combat these pests, broad-spectrum insecticides or biological control methods are used if the infestation has not yet reached critical levels.

Powdery mildew may occur when air humidity is high and air circulation around the shrub is poor. Preventing overcrowded planting conditions is the best way to avoid this disease.

Using copper or sulfur-based fungicides is effective at the first sign of fungal growth. Maintaining the overall health of the plant through balanced nutrition also strengthens the shrub's natural resistance.
