The effect of these substances is immediate, with visual damage to suckers appearing within 30 to 60 minutes after application. Effectiveness depends entirely on the coverage quality and the uniformity of the spray solution.
This group of substances is also frequently used as a desiccant to prepare crops for harvest by reducing the moisture content of the green mass. Their ability to disrupt cell membranes quickly makes them essential for selective vegetative control.
The primary use of fatty alcohols is for the control of suckers in tobacco and macorka cultivation. These preparations stop the development of secondary shoots that compete for nutrients with the main leaves.
In addition to sucker control, fatty alcohols act as desiccants for various vegetable and field crops. They facilitate the drying of vegetative parts, which simplifies and accelerates the harvesting process.
In pomology, fatty alcohols are sometimes used for fruit thinning. Precise application to young fruitlets allows for the regulation of the fruit load on trees, promoting larger and higher-quality yields.
These substances can also exhibit herbicidal activity against various weeds in their early growth stages. However, due to their contact-only nature, they are rarely used as primary herbicides for established weed infestations.
