Tebuconazole belongs to the triazole chemical class and acts as a systemic fungicide with protective, curative, and eradicative properties. Its primary function is the inhibition of ergosterol biosynthesis within fungal pathogen cells.

Disruption of the ergosterol synthesis pathway leads to irreversible changes in the fungal cell membranes. This process halts mycelial growth and spore development, making the compound an effective tool for both disease prevention and treatment of already infected plants.

The substance is rapidly absorbed into plant tissues through vegetative organs and translocated acropetally, providing protection for new growth. Due to its high systemic mobility, tebuconazole effectively suppresses internal infections.

Beyond its fungicidal activity, the compound often functions as a plant growth regulator. In specific concentrations, it can retard internode elongation, which is particularly beneficial for managing winter oilseed rape during the autumn season.

The duration of protective action typically ranges from 2 to 4 weeks depending on disease pressure and climatic conditions. This extended residual effect allows for fewer applications throughout the growing season.

What it targets

Tebuconazole demonstrates a broad spectrum of activity against most rust species, powdery mildew, septoria, and various types of rots. It is considered an industry standard for managing Fusarium head blight in cereal crops.

The product effectively controls diseases such as tan spot, scald, leaf blotches, and phoma. It is frequently incorporated into disease management programs for cereals, legumes, oilseed rape, grapes, and fruit trees.

Application rates for tebuconazole vary depending on the co-formulated active ingredients, crop type, and field phytosanitary conditions. Typical rates range from 0.5 to 1.5 liters of commercial product per hectare.

Applications are performed during the vegetative stage upon the appearance of initial disease symptoms or as a preventative measure. For cereals, application during the flowering period is critical for preventing Fusarium contamination.

Restrictions

When using tebuconazole, it is essential to strictly follow application protocols to avoid potential phytotoxicity. Avoid spraying during periods of extreme heat or when soil moisture is severely limited.

The substance is moderately hazardous to bees and aquatic organisms, requiring the observance of specific buffer zones. Always use personal protective equipment for respiratory and skin protection when preparing and applying the working solution.
