Topinambur, also known as earth pear, is a versatile plant widely used for decorative, culinary, and medicinal purposes. Its tubers are rich in vitamins, minerals, fiber, amino acids, and inulin — a natural prebiotic that breaks down in the body to form fructose. This makes topinambur especially valuable for diabetics and those concerned with metabolism. Tubers are processed into various products including syrups, candied fruits, chips, flour, and even coffee, expanding its application in the food industry.

The plant is characterized by high yield and resilience to various soil and climatic conditions. In Ukraine, one hectare can yield up to 50 tons of tubers and 60 tons of green mass, which serves as excellent animal feed. Topinambur is drought-resistant, overwinters underground, and does not require special storage facilities. With drip irrigation, yield can reach 135 tons per hectare, making it a highly profitable and promising crop for agriculture.

In addition to food and feed uses, topinambur finds application in other areas: dry stems serve as raw material for biofuel production, and dried flowers are used to make tea. Although the plant is listed as an invasive species in Ukraine, its cultivation is possible under specific control rules and methods, enabling effective use of all its benefits without harm to local ecosystems.
