MEDIUM 139 is a medium-maturing spring barley variety intended for feed and food use. The plants are tall, reaching a height of 65-70 cm, with a semi-upright bush and a cylindrical, loose ear covered with a medium-intensity waxy coating. The grain is large, with a 1000-seed mass of 43-51 g, and crude protein content in the grain varies from 9.9 to 11.0%. The vegetative period is 70-80 days, allowing the variety to mature simultaneously with regional benchmark varieties. The variety is distinguished by high resistance to lodging and shattering, ensuring crop preservation under unfavorable weather conditions. MEDIUM 139 exhibits enhanced heat and drought resistance, making it particularly valuable for cultivation in the Volgograd region and the Lower Volga region. It is resistant to loose smut but susceptible to powdery smut, which should be taken into account when organizing plant protection. The yield of the variety under production conditions ranges from 28 to 44 c/ha, with maximum indicators up to 48.7 c/ha, confirming its high productivity. Thanks to the large grain and stable protein indicators, MEDIUM 139 is suitable both for brewing production and for feeding animals. The variety is recommended for cultivation in regions with similar climatic conditions, ensuring a reliable and high-quality crop.
