The Tatanakovskoe apple variety is an autumn variety of Altai selection, bred in Gorno-Altaysk at the M.A. Lisavenko Siberian Horticulture Research Institute. This variety was obtained by crossing the hybrid Rannetka purpurea × Pepin shafran with the variety Welchi. The tree is medium-sized with a rounded, dense crown, which ensures ease of care and harvest collection. Fruit bearing usually begins in the fourth or fifth year after planting.
The fruits of the Tatanakovskoe variety are comparatively large for Siberian conditions, weighing between 57 and 73 grams with a rounded shape. The main color of the apples is golden-yellow with a blurred purple covering that covers most of the fruit. The flesh is creamy, finely granulated, juicy, with an acid-sweet taste that is highly appreciated by apple lovers. The fruits ripen in early September and can be stored for up to 60 days, allowing them to be used fresh during the autumn period.
The yield of the variety is stable and amounts to about 7.6 tons per hectare, confirmed by long-term observations in Gorno-Altaysk. The frost resistance of the apple tree is average, however, the tree has good recovery ability after harsh winters. Resistance to scab is also average: in epiphytotic years, leaves are moderately affected, and fruits are weakly affected. The variety is suitable for growing in regions with a climate similar to the West Siberian one, provided that local climatic features are taken into account.
