Developed by the Institute of Vegetable and Melon Growing (NAAS of Ukraine), the 'Vohnedar' variety is designed for operational reliability in field conditions. Classified as a mid-early variety with a vegetation cycle of 70–80 days, it offers a balanced growth rate that optimizes resource use during the peak of the growing season. The focus of this variety is not just on yield volume, but on biological resilience, which acts as a foundational cost-saving mechanism for agricultural producers.

Biological Defense Infrastructure

The core of 'Vohnedar' is its resistance profile, engineered to mitigate risks from two of the most destructive melon pathogens:

• Fusarium Wilt (Fusarium oxysporum): The variety maintains vascular integrity, ensuring the plant survives the critical fruit-filling stage without collapse, even under high disease pressure.
• Anthracnose (Colletotrichum lagenarium): The genetic makeup restricts the pathogen’s ability to develop on leaf tissue, preserving the plant’s photosynthetic surface and overall energy production.

By integrating these defenses, the variety serves as a "built-in" protection system, reducing the need for intensive fungicide applications and lowering the environmental and financial costs of crop management.

Fruit Structure and Logistics

From a logistics perspective, 'Vohnedar' features a robust rind structure and dense internal texture, which are critical for preventing mechanical damage during harvesting and transportation. This structural integrity minimizes losses during the supply chain process, ensuring that the fruit arrives at the market in high-quality condition. This combination of pathogen resistance and structural durability makes it a practical, low-maintenance choice for large-scale operations requiring consistent supply.
