The Topgan F1 watermelon is an ultra-early Crimson Sweet hybrid developed by the Dutch company Syngenta Seeds. The vegetative period is approximately 58-62 days from transplanting seedlings and 70-75 days from sowing. The plant is robust, with a branched root system and large leaves that effectively shield the fruit from overheating. The hybrid is characterized by high yield — up to 70-80 tons per hectare, with 1-2 large fruits per plant weighing 8-10 kg, occasionally reaching 16 kg. The fruits have a cube-like shape, dark green glossy rind with light veins, and an attractive appearance. The flesh is dark red, crisp, and distinctly sweet due to high content of fructose, sucrose, and glucose. The seeds are small and dark. Thanks to strong fruit walls, the watermelon withstands transportation without loss of market appearance and can be stored for up to three months after harvest. The hybrid is self-pollinating, allowing successful cultivation both in open ground and under plastic or cover material. Topgan F1 is adaptable to growing conditions, preferring loose sandy soils, moderate watering and fertilization, sufficient light, and absence of drafts. Its robust root system ensures plant nutrition even during dry periods. The hybrid exhibits high resistance to fungal diseases of cucurbits, such as anthracnose and Fusarium wilt, contributing to stable and high-quality yield. The watermelon is intended for fresh consumption and is ideal for commercial cultivation due to its early ripening, high fruit quality, and resistance to adverse factors.
