Watermelon Sharm

A Reliable Choice from Ukrainian Selection

The 'Sharm' watermelon variety is a result of the systematic breeding work carried out by the Institute of Vegetable and Melon Growing of the NAAS of Ukraine. Unlike many modern high-maintenance hybrids that demand rigorous adherence to intensive mineral nutrition protocols, this variety is noted for its high plasticity and adaptability to diverse soil and climatic conditions within Ukraine.

Key Characteristics and Market Appeal

The standout feature of 'Sharm' is its consistently round fruit shape. From a commercial standpoint, this is a significant advantage: uniform, round melons are significantly easier to pack, stack, and transport, which reduces physical damage and logistics costs during supply to retail chains and local markets.

Strengths and Management Considerations

• Performance: The variety shows excellent tolerance to temperature fluctuations in steppe and forest-steppe zones. It provides stable yields under moderate agricultural management, making it an ideal choice for farms focusing on cost-efficient production.
• Management: While robust, 'Sharm' benefits from proactive disease monitoring, particularly during seasons with high humidity, to ensure maximum yield quality and shelf life.

This variety is optimally suited for regional farming businesses targeting a stable market presence. It appeals to growers who value the predictable, proven performance of domestic Ukrainian selection over the high-cost dependency associated with annual F1 hybrid seed purchases.
