Watermelon variety Atlant belongs to mid-early maturing types, fruit ripening period is from 72 to 88 days after germination. Fruits of this variety have large size, average weight varies from 4 to 6 kg. Fruit shape is obtuse-elliptical or close to spherical, surface is smooth, colored dark green with wide black-green stripes. Medium-thick rind provides good transportability and storage capacity, fruits can be stored up to 90 days after harvest.
The flesh of watermelon Atlant is carmine-red, dense, granular, very juicy and sweet. Dry matter content in fruits is 10-11%, sugar content — 8-9.5%, which gives them high taste quality. Moreover, watermelon is rich in vitamin C (about 8.6 mg%) and pectin substances (about 3.2% on dry basis), making it useful for dietary and therapeutic nutrition.
Atlant variety is resistant to some diseases, such as fusarium wilt and anthracnose, which simplifies its cultivation both in open and protected soil. Yield on dry land reaches 40 tons per hectare.
