Watermelon Himalia

Why Himalia is the Pro Choice in Seedless Watermelons

The «Crimson Sweet» market is crowded, but Himalia by Rijk Zwaan stands out by solving the primary pain point of triploid watermelons: the balance between high quality and crop reliability. Dutch breeding expertise has produced a hybrid that marries superior fruit characteristics with robust plant vigor.

Agronomic Advantages

In intensive farming, soil-borne diseases can ruin half a crop. Himalia features built-in genetic resistance to Fusarium wilt and Anthracnose, providing a crucial buffer for your ROI. Its vigorous growth habit allows for faster recovery from erratic weather conditions.

• Maturation: Ready for harvest in 65–70 days, allowing for precise market entry.
• Market Specs: Perfectly round fruits weighing 6–8 kg are the gold standard for supermarket retail and upscale grocery chains.
• Consumer Appeal: Deep red, crispy flesh with high sugar content and, most importantly, no seeds. This makes it a high-demand product for modern, convenience-oriented shoppers.

Who is this hybrid for?

Himalia is engineered for farmers targeting premium retail or export contracts. Unlike standard varieties, this hybrid demands professional management, including the proper use of pollinators. However, those investments are recouped through the high marketability and premium pricing that seedless watermelons command.

While the learning curve for seedless production is steeper than for standard watermelons, Himalia is one of the most predictable tools in the Rijk Zwaan catalog. For growers looking to shift from commodity production to contract-based retail sales, Himalia provides the consistency needed to win and keep customers.
