The ripening period varies from 60 to 89 days depending on growing conditions and planting method, enabling harvest within the shortest possible time. The plant is vigorous with strong growth energy, well-adapted to adverse weather conditions and standard agronomic practices, and resistant to common melon diseases, including anthracnose. To increase yield, it is recommended to tie plants to a trellis and control lateral shoots.
Crimstar watermelon fruits are round or round-oval in shape, weighing between 4 to 12 kg depending on growing conditions. The rind is medium-thick or dense, ensuring high transportability and long shelf life, making them suitable for export and long-term storage. Fruit color is green with dark stripes and a waxy coating, which serves a protective function. The flesh is intensely bright red, juicy and tender, with high sugar content — from 12 to 13% — giving the watermelon a sweet and refreshing taste. Seeds are black, and the flesh is dense and uniform.
Crimstar is ideal for fresh market sales, export, and processing. Due to its commercial qualities — high sugar content, dense flesh, and resistance to damage during transport — this hybrid is in demand among consumers. Moderate watering is recommended, especially during fruit ripening, and cultivation can be either free-standing in rows or with trellising. Crimstar watermelon can be consumed fresh or used for making watermelon honey.
