The Czech breeding school Semo A.S. has focused on harvest stability within the mid-season variety segment. The «Vladan» variety is the result of targeted work on resistance to key pathogens that limit legume production in temperate climates.

Biological potential and productivity

The vegetation cycle of the variety is 70–80 days, classifying it as an optimal choice for obtaining marketable yields in the second half of the season. The primary value of this variety lies in its combination of large-seeded traits with high pod-filling density.

• Pod parameters: A pod length of 6–7 cm ensures comfortable harvesting during mechanical collection. The blunt shape of the tip reduces the risk of grain damage during threshing.
• Grain productivity: 6–7 large peas are consistently formed in each pod. The genetically determined large-seeded trait allows for high market quality metrics when adhering to agricultural standards.

Phytosanitary resistance as a cost-reduction tool

One of the key engineering objectives in creating this variety was addressing the problem of soil-borne and airborne infections. In conditions of high humidity and elevated temperatures, when crop infection risks increase, «Vladan» demonstrates complex resistance:

• Fusarium wilt: The variety possesses pronounced tolerance, which minimizes plant loss during critical development phases.
• Ascochyta blight: Genetic protection against this disease allows the leaf apparatus to remain functional until the end of the vegetation period, which is critical for pod filling.

The practical implication of this immune profile is the possibility of reducing fungicide applications, which directly impacts product sustainability and the economic efficiency of the agribusiness. The use of the «Vladan» variety is justified in fields with intensive crop rotation, where pathogen accumulation in the soil requires high biological adaptability from the culture.
