Tomato VESEUVIUS

Performance and Cultivation

The 'Vezuviy' tomato is a mid-to-late maturing variety requiring a 120–130 day cycle, making it best suited for greenhouse environments where temperature and humidity can be managed. As an indeterminate variety, it demands a robust support system. The operational maintenance is focused on constant vertical training; failing to secure the main stem properly can lead to structural failure once the heavy, heart-shaped fruit begins to develop.

Maintenance and Yield Management

Operators should focus on a one or two-stem formation strategy. Because the fruit consistently exceeds 200 grams, individual trusses may require mechanical support to prevent stem breakage. The variety is characterized by thin-skinned, pink flesh, which prioritizes flavor over transport durability. This makes it an excellent choice for local markets or direct-to-consumer sales where eating quality is the primary metric.

Key Operational Factors

• Nutrient Input: High potassium levels are essential to support the development of large, dense, heart-shaped fruits.
• Pruning: Strict adherence to suckering is required to ensure proper airflow, reducing the risk of fungal issues in the dense canopy.
• Harvesting: Due to the delicate nature of the skin, fruit should be harvested carefully and processed or sold shortly thereafter to maintain top-tier condition.
