Growing «Tolstyak» from Sedek: A Practical Approach

When planning the season, choosing a reliable tomato variety is key. The «Tolstyak» variety by Sedek is a classic choice for growers prioritizing size and weight. This tomato performs as a workhorse, consistently producing high-quality fruit weighing over 200 grams, making it suitable for both fresh markets and processing.

Growth Cycle and Maintenance

With a maturity period of 100–120 days, «Tolstyak» falls into the mid-season category. Experience shows that plant formation is crucial: to achieve those large heart-shaped or flat-round fruits, pruning to 1–2 stems is recommended. Because the clusters are quite heavy, proper staking is not just optional—it is a necessity to prevent stem breakage under the load of the fruit.

Yield and Marketability

The potential yield of up to 50 tons per hectare is achievable with proper irrigation and balanced fertilization. The fruits are deep red, firm, and have excellent flavor profiles. The main value of this variety from the Sedek breeding team is its predictability. If you are looking for seed material that delivers consistent results without major surprises, this variety is a solid investment.

• Large fruit size: consistently high market yield.
• Durability: good resistance to common nightshade diseases.
• Appearance: the mix of heart-shaped and flat-round fruits has high consumer appeal.
