Tomato T 026 8

Built for Long-term Storage and Processing

The “T 026 8” variety, developed by breeder Vasily Ivanovich Blokin-Mechtalin, is a classic choice for growers planning their harvest with an eye on long-term utility. With a growing cycle exceeding 150 days, this determinate variety is best suited for southern regions with an extended warm season or for greenhouse production where climate control allows the plant to complete its full cycle.

Practical Farm Applications

• Whole-fruit canning: The round shape and firm skin ensure the tomatoes retain their commercial appearance after heat treatment. They fit perfectly into jars and resist cracking during brining.
• Winter storage: Due to the late maturity, a portion of the harvest can be set aside for ripening. These fruits have excellent shelf life, extending the availability of fresh produce well into the winter months.
• Industrial processing: The dense pulp makes this variety a reliable raw material for tomato paste, thick sauces, and ketchups, where high dry matter content is a priority.

The determinate growth habit significantly reduces labor costs: the plants require less intensive pruning and maintenance, making them suitable for larger-scale cultivation. Agronomists recommend this variety as a foundational crop for those looking for a stable harvest that does not require immediate sale, allowing the farmer to capitalize on market windows by storing the product for a better price.
