Tomato SPIRIOZO

The Rijk Zwaan Cherry Tomato Standard

The Dutch breeding school, Rijk Zwaan, is renowned for its meticulous approach to greenhouse crops, and the "Spirioso" tomato is a prime example of their modern small-fruited line. This indeterminate hybrid has firmly established itself in the professional vegetable sector, where yield stability and pathogen resistance are the decisive factors.

Agronomic Features

Spirioso stands out for its early maturity: the vegetation period until the first ripe fruits takes less than 90 days. This allows agricultural enterprises to plan crop rotations flexibly and achieve predictable yields. Its indeterminate growth habit requires pruning, but this architecture is perfectly suited for intensive film and glass greenhouses, maximizing vertical space efficiency.

Fruit Quality and Culinary Appeal

With a fruit weight ranging from 20 to 40 grams, Spirioso belongs to the classic "cherry" category. Its perfectly round shape and vibrant red color make it highly sought after in retail; these tomatoes look excellent in packaging and maintain their appeal during transport. The firm skin texture is paired with dessert-like flavor, making them ideal for fresh consumption, food plating, and culinary applications.

Protection and Resilience

One of the main challenges in greenhouse tomato cultivation remains soil-borne infections. Rijk Zwaan breeders have equipped Spirioso with a high level of resistance to root-knot nematodes. This advantage allows growers to significantly reduce costs associated with expensive soil fumigation and the use of harsh pesticides, making this hybrid an attractive choice for farms committed to integrated pest management (IPM) practices.
