The 'Odyssey' Tomato: Stability Meets Marketability

In the landscape of modern tomato varieties, 'Odyssey' occupies a distinct position for those prioritizing both aesthetic appeal and logistical durability. Developed by specialized research centers, this Russian determinate variety represents a breed of tomatoes designed to survive the journey from field to shelf while maintaining its culinary integrity.

Core Technical Specifications

• Maturity: Mid-early, reaching harvest stage within 90–100 days.
• Plant Structure: Determinate habit, ensuring uniform growth and ease of management in various field conditions.
• Fruit Profile: Large, typically weighing over 200 grams, with a consistent rounded shape.
• Coloration: A distinctive rich brown (chocolate) hue, differentiating it from standard red varieties.

The standout feature of 'Odyssey' is its exceptional shelf life. Capable of being stored for over 30 days after harvest without significant loss of firmness or flavor, it effectively bridges the gap between peak harvest times and market demand. Its superior transportability makes it an ideal candidate for growers who need to distribute their yield across longer distances without compromising on quality.

Bred for adaptability, 'Odyssey' performs reliably in both open fields and protected environments like greenhouses or film tunnels. For the commercial grower, the variety offers a predictable return: large, meaty fruits that resist bruising and remain visually striking due to their unique pigmentation. It is a robust, low-maintenance choice for those looking to provide high-quality, long-lasting produce to the market.
