Sunflower VD 22

An Early-Maturing Solution for Crop Rotation Optimization

VD 22 is a classic early-maturing sunflower hybrid designed to meet the needs of agricultural enterprises seeking an ultra-short growing cycle. With a vegetation period of 90–100 days, this hybrid is ideal for farms practicing double cropping or operating in regions with short frost-free windows.

Agronomic Profile and Field Performance

The plant reaches a height of 170–180 cm, ensuring optimal harvestability with standard combine harvesters. The convex shape of the head promotes natural moisture drainage, which significantly reduces the risk of rot during the ripening phase. The hybrid was developed by the V.S. Pustovoit All-Russian Research Institute of Oil Crops in partnership with Chinese researchers, blending traditional breeding excellence with modern trait stabilization techniques.

Practical Field Application

• Timely Field Clearing: Due to the 100-day maturity, harvesting occurs within a tight timeframe. This gives the agronomist a head start on soil tillage and fertilizer application for winter crops.
• Harvest Logistics: The hybrid allows for efficient fleet management, as it matures earlier than mid-season varieties, minimizing combine downtime.
• Seeding Flexibility: The rapid biomass accumulation rate allows for the planting of VD 22 even if the sowing window is slightly delayed, without sacrificing critical yield potential.

Choosing this hybrid is a strategic move for agronomists prioritizing predictable results and technological flexibility. VD 22 does not require complex protection schemes, allowing for a focus on core agronomic practices.
